PETRA MUELLER
Brief Bio.
Plant science field work. Experimental film, video & print. Film archivist. University prof. Designer. Born in Berlin Germany, Canadian citizen.
Education: experimental printmaking (lithography : Bob Evermon) and film and video (David Rimmer) at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design, Vancouver. Card carrying member of Group K, that included the cinematographer Kim Derko, amongst others, 1985. Before then, plant science (virus free seed potato project, with the farmers of the Pemberton Valley), Department of Plant Sciences, University of British Columbia. MFA, Photography, Concordia University, 1992.
Worked on the Last Film Search project, National Film and Sound Archive of Australia; with the legendary Harold Brown from the British Film Archive.
Taught the course "Women and Technology" at the Department of Communication Studies, Concordia University, Montréal
Worked as a designer in the Montréal technology sector. Part of the original team that created a more human business focused knowledge-network for the global Independent technology developer community.
Distribution committee, Vidéographe, Montréal, 1990’s, invited by Ségolène Roederer. On the administrative board of Galerie Dazibao, Montréal, 1990’s, invited by France Choinière.
Presently a member of the printmaking collective Atelier Circulaire, Montréal and the experimental film collective La Collective Lumière, Montréal.
Petra Mueller is a recipient of a Research Council Nature and Technologies Fellowship (formerly FCAR) and J.W. McConnell Research Fellowship, as well as a Canada Council for the Arts Project Grant.
